Gallery 1
In 1997 I bought my first SLR camera and began to
seriously study and practice photography – only
hoping at first to take my own pictures of native plants
and mosses for a web site but eventually aspiring to
create images like the ones I admired in books and
galleries.
My influences at this time included Eliot Porter, whose
ability to see the mystery and beauty in details that most
people would overlook made me feel as if the two of us
were sharing a special secret. I also admired Galen
Rowell for his dramatic images of wild places around the
globe and had the privilege of participating in one of
Galen's workshops in the San Francisco Bay area in 1998.
